About

Duo Tarenna

Tiag Yi and Cindy started playing as a violin-viola duo in Summer 2020, having been in the same string quartet group much earlier. At the 2018 Singapore Performers’ Festival, the duo was part of a group that was awarded the highest award of Platinum. With COVID-19 restrictions changing all the time, they began rehearsing as a duet and the rest was history. Going forward, they hope to champion contemporary chamber music through innovative and thoughtful programming, particularly by providing opportunities to young composers from Singapore and Asia.

Tan Tiag Yi

While Tiag Yi always knew that the visual arts were not for him, music remained an open possibility. A performing composer, Tiag Yi often spends his practice time mining the repertoire on his stand for compositional ideas. He does not compose at the violin, however, but rather struggles at the piano (his second instrument, by far) or attempts to imagine pitches in his head. In an ideal alternate universe, he would like to be a writer, writing under a cool pseudonym.

Cindy Ow

Cindy started out as a violinist and like most people, switched because of a shortage of violists in high school string ensemble. She fell for the intensity of the viola and has never left its side ever since. As a biologist-in-training, music brings sanity to Cindy’s life. She is always actively diving into other music genres such as folk, rock, and electronica. When she isn’t playing the viola, you can find her in lab experimenting, at the cinemas, or daydreaming about possible art projects.
